Tamil New Years Day - Pancharatna Kritis Rendered at Srimatam, Kanchipuram

Tamil New Year's Day (Varusha Pirappu) was celebrated at Srimatam, Kanchipuram with a group rendering of Pancharatna Kritis. Varusham is the Tamil word for "year" and 'Pirappu' can be translated as the "birth" or "beginning" or "commencement" of an event. Every year, on the Tamil New Year's Day, the Thyagaraja Pancharatna Kritis are rendered at Srimatam. This New Year Day, an ensemble of artists the group rendered the Pancharatna kritis of Sri Thyagaraja, namely “Jagadanandakaraka” in raga Nattai, “Dudukugala Nanne” in Gaula, “Saadhinchane” in Arabhi, “Kanakanaruchira” in Varali and “Endaro Mahanubhavulu” in Sri Ragam, in the benign presence of His Holiness Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji, in front of Pujyasri Mahaswamiji's Adhistanam. Vocalists and instumental accompanists on Mridangam, Flute, Violin, Keyboard etc. rendered the Kritis. His Holiness blessed the artists and devotees who had come to receive blessings on the occasion of Varusha Pirappu.

In the evening, a procession of Goddess Kamakshi on the Golden chariot was taken out along the four Raja Veedhis of Kanchipuram.
